- Proof you can pay for the trip and your return, such as personal bank statements
- Evidence of your travel history, such as previous visas
- Letter from your employer confirming your job, approved leave and the purpose of the trip
- Evidence of ties to Pakistan, such as family, property or an ongoing business

- Letter of invitation from the Canadian host business, with the details IRCC lists

- 24-hour contact details for your business host in Canada
Step by step
- 1
Check you are a business visitor
Your main place of business and your income must stay outside Canada, and you must not enter the Canadian labour market. If you will work for a Canadian business, apply for a work permit instead.
- 2
Ask your host for the invitation
The Canadian company should send a letter of invitation with your details, the purpose and length of the visit, who pays which costs, and details of the company. Ask your event organiser for an event code if the event is registered.
- 3
Apply online
Create an IRCC account, complete the visitor visa application, upload the documents on your personalised checklist and any extras the visa office for Pakistan asks for, and pay the fees.
- 4
Give your biometrics
After you receive the biometric instruction letter, book an appointment at a visa application centre in Pakistan to give your fingerprints and photo.
- 5
Send your passport if asked
If your application is approved, IRCC will ask for your passport so the visa can be placed in it. Follow the instructions in your account.
- 6
Arrive at the Canadian border
Keep your passport, invitation letters, support letter, contracts and proof of funds in your hand luggage. The border officer decides whether to admit you and how long you can stay.
Costs to plan for
- The visitor visa application fee. Check the current fee on the IRCC website
- The biometrics fee, unless biometrics you gave earlier are still valid
- Visa application centre service charges and passport courier fees
- Translation of any documents not in English or French
- Travel medical insurance, as healthcare in Canada is expensive for visitors
Why applications get refused
- The officer is not satisfied you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, often because of weak ties or travel history
- The planned activities look like work in the Canadian labour market rather than business visitor activities
- Not enough evidence of funds, or unexplained deposits in bank statements
- An invitation letter that is vague or missing the details IRCC lists
- Missing documents that the visa office for Pakistan requires
- Inconsistent or false information, which can lead to a ban on future applications
Tips before you apply
- Read the visa office instructions for applicants in Pakistan before you upload anything. They can add documents to the standard checklist.
- Ask your host for two original invitation letters: one for the application and one to show at the border.
- Some visa offices ask for notarised invitation letters. Check before your host sends it.
- If work is the real goal, apply for the right permit from Pakistan. Do not plan on changing your status after you arrive.
