Visit Visa Guides for Pakistani Travellers
A visit visa lets you travel for a holiday or to see family and friends, then come home. It does not let you work, study for long or settle. Every country runs its own system, so the paperwork for a trip to Manchester looks very different from a trip to Doha or Baku.
Choose your destination
For the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and the Schengen countries, an officer weighs up your whole situation: your job or business, your savings, your family in Pakistan and your travel history. In the Gulf, a sponsor in the country often starts the process, whether that is a relative, a hotel or an airline. Some destinations, such as Azerbaijan and Malaysia, run online visa portals instead.
Each guide below explains who the route suits, the documents applicants from Pakistan usually need, the steps in order and the most common reasons for refusal. Fees, fund levels and processing times change often, so each guide links to the official source where you can check the current figures.
How to choose
- Start with your reason for travelling. A holiday, a family visit and a wedding can all fit a visit visa, but moving to live with a spouse, studying or working needs a different visa.
- If family abroad are inviting you, check what their own status allows. In the Gulf, the host's residence type and relationship to you decide whether they can sponsor you at all.
- Think about your travel history. A first trip abroad is often easier to a destination with a sponsor-led or online process, and a well-used visa helps later applications to stricter countries.
- Look honestly at your finances. Officers look for steady income and savings that match the cost of the trip, not a large deposit made just before you apply.
- Check the timing. Visa centre appointments, biometrics and document requests all take time, and the busy seasons around summer holidays and Eid fill up quickly.
- Use official portals and licensed agents only. Look-alike websites and unlicensed agents are a common way to lose money or submit a weak application.
Questions people ask
In everyday use, yes. Some countries use one visitor visa for tourism, family visits and short business trips, while others, such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia, separate tourist visas from visas sponsored by relatives. Each guide uses the official name for that country.
Often. In the UK, US, Canada, Australia and Schengen countries, a relative can invite you and help pay, but you still need to show your own ties to Pakistan. In the Gulf, a resident relative can usually start the application, provided they meet the host rules for their type of residence.
Not automatically, but most application forms ask about past refusals from any country, and you must answer honestly. Hiding a refusal is treated far more seriously than the refusal itself. Fix the reasons given before you apply again.
Pakistan applies international health rules on polio, and travellers leaving the country can be asked for proof of vaccination. Some destinations also ask for it. Get the certificate from an official vaccination centre and keep it with your passport.
No. Visit visas do not allow work, and travelling on one to look for a job can lead to refusal at the border or problems with future applications. If you want to work abroad, use the work visa route for that country.
