Costs to plan for
- The state fee and service fee, paid online. Check current amounts on the portal.
- A higher charge for urgent processing.
- Bank or card charges.
- Travel insurance.
- Accommodation and return flights.
Why applications get refused
- Travelling on a different passport from the one used to apply, which makes the e-visa invalid.
- Mistakes in names, dates or passport numbers.
- A previous overstay or other violation in Azerbaijan.
- An unclear passport scan.
- Applying through an unofficial website, so no real e-visa is issued.
- Leaving too little time before your flight for the e-visa to be processed.
Tips before you apply
- Apply well before your trip. The portal sets a minimum notice period before arrival, and urgent processing costs more.
- Print two copies of your e-visa and keep one separate from your passport.
- If you renew your passport, apply for a new e-visa on the new passport.
- Leave before your permitted stay ends. Extensions are handled by the State Migration Service and are not automatic.

Yes, the e-visa covers short family visits as well as tourism. Carry your host's address and phone number. If your relative wants to invite you formally for a longer visit, the embassy's private visit visa, which needs a notarised invitation, may suit better.
