To get a UK visit visa from Pakistan, apply online on GOV.UK for a Standard Visitor visa, pay the fee, then give your fingerprints and photo at a visa application centre. The caseworker decides whether you are a genuine visitor who can pay for the trip and will leave the UK at the end of it.

Key points

  • The UK has one main visit visa, the Standard Visitor visa, for holidays, family visits and some other short activities.
  • You apply online on GOV.UK, then give biometrics at a visa application centre in Pakistan; most cases are decided on the documents alone.
  • Bank statements are read for patterns, so unexplained deposits and income that does not match your job are common refusal reasons.
  • A relative in the UK can invite you and pay, but your own job, family and property in Pakistan still have to show you will return.
  • There is usually no appeal against a visitor refusal, so fix every reason in the letter before you apply again.

A UK visit visa from Pakistan is the Standard Visitor visa, the same visa whether you are going for a holiday, to see family or for a graduation. You apply online on GOV.UK, give your fingerprints and photo at a visa application centre in Pakistan, and a UK Visas and Immigration caseworker usually decides the application on paper. Our UK visit visa guide carries the current fee and usual decision time, with the official source.

This article goes deeper into the parts that decide most UK cases from Pakistan: the documents, the money, your ties and the reasons applications are refused. If you would like your file reviewed before you submit, our visit visa team offers a free first assessment.

What is the UK Standard Visitor visa?

The Standard Visitor visa is the UK's main short-stay visa. It covers tourism, visiting family and friends, and some other short activities, such as certain business meetings or a short course, within the limits set out on GOV.UK's Standard Visitor page. What people in Pakistan call a 'UK tourist visa' is this visa.

A visitor can usually stay up to six months per visit and cannot work, paid or unpaid. Regular visitors with a good UK record can apply for a long-term visit visa, which lasts longer but keeps the same limit on each stay. It is the wrong visa if you plan to:

  • Marry or give notice of marriage in the UK, which needs a Marriage Visitor visa
  • Move to live with a spouse, partner or parent, which needs a family visa
  • Study a course longer than the visitor rules allow, which needs a UK Student visa
  • Work, or look for work

Who can apply for a UK visit visa to see family?

Anyone with family or friends in the UK can apply as a visitor, whether the host is a British citizen, has settled status or is in the UK on a work or student visa. The application is still yours: the host supports it, but the caseworker judges your circumstances in Pakistan.

Parents visiting a son or daughter are among the most common cases. The trip usually has a clear anchor, such as a graduation, the birth of a grandchild or Eid with the family, and the file should say so plainly. For a UK family visit, your host should provide:

  • An invitation letter explaining your relationship, the dates, where you will stay and what they will pay for
  • A copy of their passport or proof of their UK immigration status
  • Proof of relationship, such as your NADRA Family Registration Certificate or birth and marriage certificates
  • Their address and evidence they have room for you, such as a tenancy agreement or mortgage statement
  • If they are paying: a signed sponsorship letter, their bank statements and proof of income

Our invitation letter guide has a sample structure and the documents a host should attach.

UK visa documents checklist for Pakistani applicants

There is no single official list that fits every applicant, but GOV.UK's supporting documents guidance points to the same core set for most people applying from Pakistan. Use this table to check your file.

Current and old passportsIdentity and travel historyInclude every old passport, especially those with visas you used
Personal bank statementsYou can pay for the trip from a stable accountUse an account in your own name with regular income, not money parked for the application
Bank maintenance certificateThe account is yours and activeGet it near your application date so it agrees with the statement
Employer letter and salary slipsA job you will return toLetterhead, designation, salary and approved leave dates; government employees add a departmental NOC
Business registration, NTN and FBR tax returnsA real business and declared incomeAdd business bank statements so turnover can be seen

Anything not in English or Welsh needs a certified translation, including a nikah nama or an Urdu property document. VisaWala's documentation service can arrange certified translations if you need them.

Funds and ties: what decides a UK visit visa from Pakistan

The caseworker has to be satisfied that you are a genuine visitor, that you can pay for the trip and that you will leave at the end of it. Many refusals turn on the last two points.

Your bank statements

UK caseworkers read statements for patterns, not just balances. They look for income that matches your declared salary or business, spending that fits your life and savings that build over time. A large deposit shortly before applying, with no explanation, is a classic refusal reason. If money came from selling land or a car, or from a committee, say so and attach the sale deed or receipts. Our guide to the bank statement for a visit visa explains how to present it.

When a relative pays

A host or relative can pay for some or all of the trip. Their sponsorship letter should say exactly what they will cover, backed by their own bank statements and proof of income. The caseworker still looks at your circumstances, because a sponsor cannot make you return.

Ties to Pakistan

Ties are what you would lose by not returning: a job with approved leave, a business that needs you, property, children at school, a spouse or elderly parents at home. Keep the trip proportionate. A long stay may suit a retired parent, but for someone in a salaried job with limited leave it raises an obvious question.

1. Check that your trip fits the visitor rules

Read the permitted activities on GOV.UK and settle your dates. If you plan to marry, work or study for longer, stop and choose the right visa instead. GOV.UK also sets the earliest point before travel at which you can apply, so check it before planning around a fixed event such as a convocation.

2. Gather your evidence and translations

Collect the documents in the checklist, ask your host for their part early and order certified translations. Make sure your name is spelt the same way on your passport, CNIC, FRC and bank records, because a mismatch invites questions. Hold genuine flight reservations rather than paid tickets; our flight booking team can place one that matches your dates.

3. Apply online on GOV.UK

Complete the form through GOV.UK's apply page, pay the fee and choose a visa application centre in Pakistan. Answer every question about previous travel, refusals and immigration history in full. The income and trip costs you enter should match your statements and employer letter.

4. Attend your biometrics appointment

At the visa application centre, you give fingerprints and a photo and submit or upload your documents as the centre instructs. Centres may offer paid extras such as document scanning, courier return or a faster decision service. None of them changes how your evidence is judged.

5. Wait for the decision, then check your visa

Hold off on non-refundable flights until you have a decision. When your passport comes back, check your name, dates and visa type, and report any mistake before travelling. Carry your invitation letter, return booking and proof of funds in your hand luggage, because a Border Force officer may ask about your plans on arrival.

UK visa refusal reasons and how to fix them

A UK refusal letter lists the specific reasons. There is usually no right of appeal against a visitor visa refusal, so the practical answer is a stronger new application that deals with each reason in turn.

Refusal reasonWhat the caseworker sawWhat to change before reapplying
Unexplained fundsLarge deposits shortly before applyingShow the source with sale deeds, receipts or transfer records, or let the money build a history
Income does not matchDeclared salary or profit out of line with statements or the trip's costAlign the form, employer letter, tax returns and bank credits; plan a cheaper trip if needed
Weak tiesNo settled job, business or family responsibilities shownAdd employer, business, property and family evidence, and shorten the trip
Undisclosed historyAn earlier refusal or overstay left off the formDeclare everything and explain what has changed
Inconsistent storyForm, invitation and documents disagree on dates or purposeRebuild the file so every document tells the same story
Trip too longA stay out of step with your leave or purposeMatch the dates to your approved leave and the event

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a UK visit visa with no travel history?

Yes. A first-time traveller can be granted a visa if the file shows a genuine purpose, enough money and strong reasons to return. Without past visas to lean on, the rest of the evidence has to work harder: a clear employer letter, steady statements and a proportionate trip. Some people visit nearer countries first, but that is a choice, not a rule.

How much money should I show for a UK visit visa?

GOV.UK does not set a fixed amount for visitors. The caseworker considers whether your funds cover the realistic cost of the trip alongside your normal commitments in Pakistan, and whether the money has a visible source. A modest, steady account that clearly covers a short trip is better than a large balance that appeared last month.

Do children need their own UK visit visa?

Yes. Every child, including babies, needs their own passport and visa application, with the child's B-Form and the parents' details. GOV.UK's section for applicants under 18 explains the parental consent and travel arrangements it expects, especially when a child travels alone or with an adult who is not their parent. Many families add a consent letter when only one parent travels, too.

Should I apply for a long-term UK visit visa?

A long-term visit visa suits people who visit the UK regularly, such as parents with children settled there, and who already have a good UK travel record. Each stay is still limited to the usual visitor period and the fee is higher. For a first UK visit, the standard visa is usually the sensible choice, with a longer one considered after a trip or two.

Can I reapply straight after a UK visa refusal?

You can, but there is little point unless something has changed. Reapplying with the same documents usually brings the same result, and every refusal stays on your record and must be declared on future forms. Read each reason in the letter, fix it with new evidence, explain the change in your cover letter and only then apply again.

Will I be interviewed for a UK visit visa?

Most visitor applications are decided on the documents without an interview. UK Visas and Immigration can occasionally ask an applicant for an interview if it needs more detail about the trip or their circumstances. If you are asked, answer in your own words and make sure you know what your form and cover letter say.

Note: This guide is general information, not legal or immigration advice. Visa rules change and every case is different. Always confirm current requirements and speak to a qualified consultant before applying.
