Visit visa requirements for Pakistani applicants

Whatever the destination, a strong file starts with the same core papers. Add your destination's own checklist on top.

• Passport with enough validity and blank pages, plus your old passports, since past visas and stamps are evidence in their own right
• CNIC copy, and for children the NADRA Child Registration Certificate (B-Form)
• NADRA Family Registration Certificate (FRC) when family members apply together or you are visiting relatives
• Personal bank statements for recent months and a bank maintenance certificate, in your own name
• FBR income tax returns and your NTN, if you are a filer
• For employees: an employer letter confirming your job, salary and approved leave, recent salary slips, and an NOC if you work for the government
• For business owners: registration papers, business bank statements and tax returns
• Proof of other ties, such as property papers, your children's school letters or a university enrolment letter
• Hotel and flight reservations that match your dates, and travel insurance where it is required
• For family visits: the invitation letter and your host's status and relationship documents
• A polio vaccination certificate, which you can be asked for when leaving Pakistan

How do officers decide a visit visa application?

Wherever your file is decided, the officer is answering three questions. A file that answers them clearly does far better than one stuffed with paper.

1. Is the purpose genuine? The reason for the trip should be specific, believable and the same everywhere it appears.
2. Can you pay for it? Your money should cover the trip comfortably and come from a source the officer can see.
3. Will you leave on time? Your job, business, property and family in Pakistan should make your return the obvious next step.

No officer is won over by a single large balance or a thick folder. They want a coherent story backed by evidence that agrees with itself.

How to show ties to Pakistan

Ties are the reasons you will come home, and the officer weighs them against any family you have abroad. Show them with documents, not adjectives: an employer letter that states your return date is worth more than a line saying you love your job.

If you are employed

Ask for a letter on company letterhead with your designation, joining date, salary and approved leave dates, backed by salary slips that match the credits in your bank statement. Government employees should add the departmental NOC or leave sanction.

If you run a business or farm

Show that the business is real and active: registration papers, NTN, recent tax returns and an account with regular transactions. If your income is seasonal, as it is for many farmers and family businesses, explain the pattern in your cover letter and attach papers such as crop sale receipts or a partnership deed.

If you are retired, a homemaker or a student

Ties can be strong without a salary. Pension papers, property documents, a spouse's employment, children at school or your own university enrolment all count. A relative can pay for the trip, but your own reasons to return still need to appear in the file.

If you have never travelled

A blank passport is not a refusal reason on its own, but it gives the officer less to go on. Some families start with a destination that has an online or sponsor-led process, such as Malaysia, Azerbaijan or the Gulf, before applying to stricter countries, because a visa used properly is evidence for the next one.

Writing a cover letter for your visit visa

A one-page cover letter to the visa section connects your documents and explains anything unusual, such as a recent deposit or seasonal business income. Cover these points:

• Who you are and what you do
• Where you are going, your dates and a short plan
• Why you are going, and who you will see

How to get a visit visa from Pakistan, step by step

1. Define the trip: destination, dates, travellers and purpose, and confirm that a visit visa is the right category.
2. Read the official checklist for applicants in Pakistan and note anything that needs translation or attestation.
3. Gather the core documents, and ask your host or sponsor for their part early.
4. Make genuine hotel and flight reservations that match your itinerary, and buy insurance if required. Do not buy non-refundable tickets yet.

Family visit visas: what your host abroad provides

A family visit application has two halves. For the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and the Schengen states, your host invites you and may pay, but you apply yourself and must still show your own reasons to return.

• An invitation letter stating the relationship, the dates, where you will stay and who pays for what
• A copy of their passport, residence permit or other proof of status
• Proof of relationship, usually your NADRA Family Registration Certificate, or birth and marriage certificates
• Their financial documents if they are covering any costs

Common mistakes that lead to refusals

• Money that appears in the account shortly before applying, with no explanation
• A purpose on the form that differs from the invitation, such as 'tourism' when the host describes a wedding
• An earlier refusal from another country left off the form
• A sponsor letter without the sponsor's own status and income papers
• A planned stay longer than your approved leave from work
• Hotel bookings cancelled straight after submission
